15' Spey
About this event
Two-handed Spey casting from the water.
Spey casting is a water-anchored technique developed for practical salmon fishing on rivers where the angler wades into the water and has no room behind for an overhead back cast. The line stays in contact with the surface, the rod loads against that anchor, and the cast is rolled forward in one continuous motion. Event 5 uses a two-handed rod up to 15 ft 1 in (463 cm). The caster stands in the water (50–60 cm deep) inside a 40-degree V-shaped sector that opens out at least 70 m.
Two different casts are required: one with the line coming from the right delivered over the left shoulder, and one with the line coming from the left delivered over the right shoulder. The final result is the sum of the longest valid cast on each side. The time limit is 6 minutes, with no warm-up. If two casters tie, the sum of their second-longest casts on each side breaks the tie, then the third.
Official World Records
Official World Records have only been tracked since the 2024 World Championships in Åhus, when separate Men's and Women's record categories were first established under the new rules. Earlier results listed below may exceed these values but are not eligible as official records.
